Spasticity is a physiological consequence of an insult to the brain or spinal cord that lead to life-threatening, disabling and costly consequences. It is the type of an upper motor neuron injury characterized by muscle activity which, if left untreated or sub-optimally treated, may lead to muscle and soft tissue contracture. There are several neurophysiological techniques used to improve motor control and manage spasticity. However, most rehabilitation procedures are focused in the treatment of the distal part of the affected lim sed on the proximodistal principle, motor control progress from the axis of the body to the peripheral muscles, that is from the trunk to the limbs. Therefore, motion and control of the proximal part are prerequisite for the movement of the distal part.
Thus, it is important that physical therapy management wilo focus on the proximal part of the body before expecting movement on the distal part. This study wants to determine the effectiveness of taping the scapular muscles in reducing the spasticity of the upper extremity.
